If the promise
of leadership and business reinvention LEADERSHIP BY DESIGN A powerful 6-day program for those who are willing to challenge their assumptions and conclusions regarding leadership and are open to thoroughly examining their own effectiveness. In this program four specific areas are addressed: INDIVIDUAL
REINVENTION THE MYTHS AND
REALITIES OF LEADERSHIP
THE POWER OF
LANGUAGE AND RELATIONSHIP IN ORGANIZATIONS Examine any business organization and you will find language and relationship at the core — whether it is enrolling employees in a vision, building teams, or selling a product. Learning to manage what is in the background of language and relationship (the unseen, unspoken, unexamined and inaccessible) is the essential tool for leaders who intend to move themselves and their organizations forward into extraordinary accomplishment. Leading and managing in this new and powerful way takes tremendous focus and clarity of intent. These are the areas directly addressed in Leadership by Design program. As a participant in the Leadership by Design you will:
And you will come away with: A New Freedom
to Lead... A Direct Pipeline
to the Heart of What’s Important for You and Others... An Enhanced
Ability to Inspire and Motivate Others Around Your Current Priorities... The current challenges facing the world’s marketplace, business organizations and humanity require people diving deeply into the creation of new systems, ethics, work strategies and balanced living. InSpirit Consulting generates a safe, consistent and powerful learning environment for a global network of clients facing change. We help to awaken and engage the vast resource that is the Human Spirit.
Action is what executives and managers of organizations are concerned with. Accomplishments, such as outstanding profits and exemplary service, are always and only a result of action. But actions never just happen. In even a small department, actions must be coordinated. People not yet in action must be moved into action and that requires leadership. Leadership Gap: There is a growing demand for leadership in business as organizations are beginning to look beyond the more traditional managerial methods of domination and control. But what is leadership? Where does it come from? Are leaders people who are just "born with it"? Are they imbued with some mysterious quality we call charisma? Can people learn to be leaders? By examining the current model or paradigm for leadership, following and power the answers to these questions may be found. A Bankrupt Model: People typically say that effective leadership is a result of a leader's personal characteristics, like talent. Another part of the model is the belief that leaders are born, not made, and that followers are necessarily weak and lacking in vision. Although not always obvious, this model or paradigm for leadership has tremendous influence. When leadership is really required inside an organization, the current model in which we have all been trained is found to be insufficient. To effectively participate in a rapidly changing, fast-paced and turbulent world a new model for leadership is essential. A New Possibility For Leadership: What would be possible if managers, supervisors or executives in your organization were providing the kind of leadership that inspires others to take bold, powerful and effective action? What kind of results would be possible if being a follower implied having tremendous vision and strength? What would be available if individuals in your organization viewed power as a function of how much they empowered others, rather than a scarce commodity to be jealously hoarded? Leadership By Design has been delivered to thousands of people in business, government, and international organizations. The participants have discovered a new access to powerful leadership and as a result their organizations have profited by a substantial increase in the performance and productivity of not only the participants, but also the people they lead. Equally important, participants report a new ability to be leaders in all aspects of their lives. Objectives:
Outline: Leadership By Design is designed to dramatically impact the effectiveness of the participants. Each participant is required to bring to the program a project which they are committed to accomplishing that is so challenging that it looks literally impossible to do without a breakthrough in their own leadership. The most significant results of the program are those which happen afterwards in these projects. Following is an outline of the key elements of Leadership By Design: Day One Build a foundation
for an inquiry and examination into the areas of leadership, following
and power. Discover the issues, challenges and concerns participants
are faced with regarding leadership and success in their lives and in their organizations.
Engage in an in-depth exploration of leadership, following and power. Videotape each participant speaking of their accomplishments and concerns for their leadership. The video enables the individuals to explore how they present themselves to others as a leader. Exploration of listening - both pro-active and re-active. Analysis of how this relates to leadership and empowerment.
Day Two & Three Engage in daily practices and activities that are designed to serve the mind, body and spirit. We will develop deeper skills in healing, compassion and personal balance. Honoring and exploring the depth of our emotions as leaders, as women, and as men...we learn to expand our range of expression, receptivity and our ability to trust our intuition. In depth work with each participant through video playback and interaction so they can discover their own personal leadership style and adaptation to the current operating paradigm for leadership, following and power. Practical conversations
are held that reveal the strategies we have adopted to get along in our
vocation and in our organizations, strategies that may rob us of the very power we need for
real accomplishment.
In this process we see that most of us distort our abilities, either overestimating or underestimating, but usually it is underestimating what we are capable of. This event is like a physical and emotional obstacle course which challenges the participants self perception...be it mental, physical or Day Five Design and invent a new paradigm for leadership, following and power that allows for a new culture of leadership/ empowerment in the organization. Developing a project which is an expression of each participant’s breakthrough in leadership and in their own particular area of accountability. Day Six Theme: Integration, Relaxation & Fun New practices and disciplines are given to empower you to bring forth your new vision and new leadership style You will be able to return back home and to your organization with more ease, grace and confidence in action that inspires you and others. We will journey to the Healing Hot Springs to soak (perhaps receive a massage) and relax enjoying some "downtime" reflecting on the breakthroughs and miracles that happened to everyone before departing. An Example From: Leadership By Design The following section of Leadership By Design distinguishes the term, "paradigm", for the participants and has them determine the current paradigm for leadership, following and power. They then examine the limitations this paradigm places on leadership and performance in their organization. The Distinction
Paradigm: Some definitions of
paradigms are: Discovering the Future,
the Business of Paradigms, Joel Barker: A paradigm is a set of rules
and regulations that: 1) describe boundaries; and 2) tells you what to
do to be successful within those boundaries. A paradigm tells you that
there is a game, what the game is, and how to play it successfully. Changes in paradigms are what have been triggering much of society's turbulence for the last twenty years. We had sets of rules we knew well, then someone changed the rules. We understood the old boundaries, then we had to learn new boundaries. And those challenges dramatically upset our world. What is the paradigm to get ahead in most organizations? Do what you're told, don't take risks, keep control at the top, numbers are all important. A paradigm is invisible, it gives what is thought or believed. A paradigm actually uses you -- it shapes and motivates your actions. It allows for and eliminates certain possibilities. Paradigms act as physiological filters -- we see the world quite literally through our paradigms. A paradigm acts as an information filter, and what we actually perceive is determined by our paradigms. What may be perfectly visible, perfectly obvious, to persons with one paradigm may be quite literally invisible to persons with a different paradigm. And this is the paradigm effect. What
is the paradigm for leadership, following and power? Current Paradigm for Leadership, Following and Power:
